Hints of red

The polydamus swallowtail is the one and only Florida swallowtail that does not have the beautiful tails. This butterfly, I believe is incredibly striking when its wings are closed due to the hints of red. I am hoping one day soon it will spread its wings and remain for longer than a couple of seconds, so I can capture the top of the wings, with the black and yellow banded coloring. It’s a beauty with a maximum wing span of 5 inches.

We had two beauties hatch in the butterfly house after spending 13 days in its chrysalis. They are numbers 14 and 15 that we have successfully raised from caterpillar.
