I may have identified this butterfly wrong the first time it visited the garden. It seems as the the tropical checkered skipper is very similiar to the common and white checkered skipper. Hopefully it will keep visiting our garden and open its wings, so I can better identify this little beauty.
This afternoon my daughter and I followed the checkered skipper around the yard trying to capture its picture. I won the game of hide-and-seek only once getting a somewhat clear photo.

Tonight when I was watering the garden it flew out of the dune sunflowers. I am assuming this might be where it sleeps at night? It came out and posed for me yet again letting me get closer and closer until it said good night.

I am truly fascinated by this little skipper and hope to better identify the exact species soon, so I can learn more of its habits.
“A” for effort!
Thank you!
Isn’t it cute how it made you work for your shots! Well done!
It definitely felt like a game!
That’s a little beauty and different from ‘our’ version (see my new post).
I loved reading your post!
